Prologue — The stag Baldur lay in bed under the beamed ceiling, wide awake, staring at the sky through the slanted window. A celestial display of violet and emerald lights danced above the cobbled streets of the sleeping town. The wind outside whispered familiar lullabies through the wide mouth of the fjord on the outskirts of town, and, in the sweet howl of the night, Baldur became aware of the shallow breaths inside his bedchamber that were not his own. "Hoder.” Baldur sat up, his pearl blond hair disheveled. He took a breath and bent down to look under his bed. A pair of azure-colored eyes gleamed at him from the darkness “What are you doing?" Baldur sat back. "Come out.” The youngling, only seven years of age with flowing golden locks, huffed and pulled himself out from under the bed. Baldur smirked at his little brother, standing before him in his linen night robes. They looked similar to each other, but, while Hoder's features were soft and delicate, Baldur already grew to full
Chapter One- Hate My parents always hated each other, right from the moment they met. Despite expectations of their surroundings, their hatred never blossomed into affection and mutual understanding; no, their view of each other did not change with time. Baldur woke to agony. His ears still rang. The smell of burned flesh and fresh blood invaded his nostrils. He howled, deep searing pain claiming his senses. His limbs went rigid, the pain pounded through him, binding his body to the cold, hard ground.
“Hold him still.” He heard someone say.
His first instinct was to set himself free of his captors, he struggled but then it hit him; he knew the sentries holding him down. Strong familiar hands pressed on his arms, another pair held onto his legs.
A freezing cold hit his stomach, it pulled the pain of the deep gash out of his body.

Chapter 1
The Promise
Reykjavir, Capital Region, Isogeldur.
The end of Samhain month.
1708 B.C.
The ancient gold bells situated north of the capital at the outpost on Engey island rang in sharp alarm. The wind howled through the town set by the long, narrow fjord. The sound of the bells resonated in the radiant valley to warn its inhabitants of the foreign vessel that threatened to breach their shores.
Baldur, the tall and fair captain of the Ljósálfar guard, arrived at the dock, sword drawn, flanked by his battalion of warriors, all mounted on gray dun fjord horses.
